Inga Levant was born in St.Petersburg, lived in Tel-Aviv and London, now lives in Berlin. Education includes music (piano) and theatre in Tel-Aviv University.

 

From 1993 works as a freelance opera director. Has directed operas in many European countries as well as in Israel and Australia. Five times was nominated for the director of the year by Opernwelt.

 

Most of her work is new or unknown operas as well as an unconventional take off on the traditional repertory. Some of her productions are: IL TROVATORE for Opera North (UK), SALOME and BORIS GODUNOV for Staatstheater Stuttgart, EUGEN ONEGIN for Nationaltheater Mannheim, OTELLO for Opernhaus Kiel, the German premiere of DREI SCHWESTERN by Peter Eötvös for Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, KULLERVO by Aulis Sallinen and DIE EROBERUNG VON MEXICO by Wolfgang Rihm for Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, ŠÁRKA by Zdenek Fibich for the Wexford Festival Ireland, SNATCHED BY THE GODS/BROKEN STRINGS by Param Vir for Asia Festival in Vienna, CAVALLERIA/PAGLIACCI for Prague State Opera, IL DILUVIO UNIVERSALE by Donizetti for the St.Gallen Festival (Switzerland) and DIE TOTE STADT for Opéra du Rhin Strasbourg/Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, which was filmed by Arthaus and is available on DVD.

 

She is fluent in English, Russian, Hebrew and less fluent in German and Italian.
